A little about me….

AAEAAQAAAAAAAAk4AAAAJDlmZWRhZDA5LTNkN2YtNDZhZi05YjcxLTA1ZjQ5NTIzOTdiNwI’m a yoga teacher, a textbook Pisces, ‘zen to zin’ enthusiast, lover of tacos, coffee chugger, and an avid traveler. I am a Wisconsin gal living blissfully in Lake Country, Wisconsin with my husband, baby boy and lovable Labrador.

So, what’s the story? Well, I have been practicing yoga on and off for years. Then… serendipitously if you will… I fell in love with the practice at a time when I ended up needing it the most.

I’ll admit, when I started practicing, I was not obsessed with finding my center or interested in learning Sanskrit… However, over a short period of time, I started realizing small changes that I was unconsciously implementing in my lifestyle. I was smiling (and laughing) an infinite amount, I found myself listening more attentively, and practicing patience and humility. In addition to the shifts in my life, yoga provided me with a community and lifestyle that I will be forever connected too. It’s a practice that’s even more rewarding off the mat which is what fascinated me. I want people to feel and find this connection too; thus, why Soul On Yoga was born.

The yoga adventure is a continuous love affair…

  • Yoga Health Counselor Certification through Kanyakumari Ayurveda + Yoga Wellness Center

Putting all these pieces of the puzzle together, yoga has undeniably helped me grow into the person and teacher I am today. I use both my creativity and my keen eye for detail as a way to compliment each asana, transition, theme, and class/session as a whole… You’ll hear me say time and time again… your mat is not only your home-base, but also your playground. After all, it’s all about playing with the fundamentals on the mat and weaving them into your life off of the mat.

Stay soulful,

Courtney Engel Berthelsen, Yoga Teacher + Yoga Health Counselor

Kind words…

“What I am NOT doing is agonizing in my chair over knee pain, because once again any soreness that I was experiencing prior to class today was completely alleviated through your session. A few days ago on my Saturday run it started off rough, but I eventually loosened up. Afterwards I added some poses to my post-run stretching routine and that helped a lot. Over the last few days I could feel it stiffening up again and aching, so I was anxious to get to your class as I knew what you had in store for us. Today was a big win.” – John

“The large group format of yoga classes at my gym wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to pursue a better understanding of the poses as well as receive personal feedback on my body alignment. I’m pleased to have found Courtney at Soul On Yoga and have worked with her on a personal training plan over the past year. Working with Courtney in private sessions has helped me calibrate what I’m feeling compared to what she is seeing. She customizes lesson plans to meet my needs, both based on her observations as well as my requests.” – Dick

I have been told I move better and have a better disposition since I have been working with Courtney. Courtney adjusts the poses to my limitations. Obviously you will get out of her class what you put into it. I have never felt pressured to push further than what I can do. I feel every little bit of effort takes me a little closer to my goal. I honestly can do much more with each class. Bottom line in my humble opinion is, I wished I started doing yoga 30 years ago.” – Steve

“Courtney is not only personable, but kind and generous. She is more than happy to help where she can and share her personal experience with Yoga and how it can help others. I can say from personal experience and never being a previous yogi that she has opened my mind and made me more open to the world of Yoga and all it has to offer. We recently took a “break” from yoga onsite with our company and once we notified the employees of Courtney’s return, our participation boosted from previous sessions and the excitement for her return is load and clear. We are very fortunate to have her services with our company and couldn’t be happier.” – Employee Health and Wellness Specialist at Rogers Memorial Hospital

“From what I have seen of her work with our students here at Notre Dame Middle School, Courtney has a fantastic ability not only to teach the physical movements of Yoga, but also to engage young people as they come to discover the deeper meaning behind Yoga as a potential spiritual practice. She is patient, reliable, and a joy to have a part of our after school programming.” – Notre Dame Middle School After School Director

“Thank you so much for a wonderful evening of yoga, wine, chocolate and community!  We enjoyed the class itself, and the camaraderie between the yogis.  Courtney, you are a fun and soulful instructor.  Keep up the good work!” – Angelique
